Decatur, TX, United States, April 17, 2024 — Serving as local counsel, Boyd, Powers & Williamson – teaming with Dallas-based law firm Dykema – obtained a $1.3 million jury verdict that covers the attorney fees incurred by Bridgeport-based American Patriot Ranch during a contract dispute.

The American Patriot Ranch won an earlier summary judgment against WCJ Assets, Ltd. concerning WCJ’s contractual right to build a rock crushing and screening plant on their ranch. The American Patriot Ranch is a sanctuary and retreat near Decatur, Texas, for war veterans and their families known for its natural beauty and serves as a habitat for thousands of wild and exotic animals. Wednesday’s verdict covers 100 percent of their legal fees. The case is WCJ Assets, LTD vs. US Trinity Bridgeport, LLC, Re: Cause No. CV20-08-579. The trial team included Dykema attorneys Israel Silvas, Cliff Riley, Sal Robles, and Keanna Wiggins and Boyd, Powers & Williamson attorneys Alan Powers and Scott Lindsey.

After a two-day trial, jurors deliberated three hours before returning a verdict. Alan Powers said he was grateful for the Wise County jury’s careful consideration and diligence in making their decision.  “We are grateful to the jurors of Wise County,” Powers said. “Cases are resolved at jury trials, but also cases settle right before trial – this highlights the pivotal role jurors play in the process. When people show up and participate, it makes the entire legal system work.”
